Office Depot and Software Provider Pay $35m for Duping Customers Into Computer Repair Services

The FTC alleged that for over a decade Office Depot, Inc. and tech support software provider, Support.com, Inc., falsely claimed that to detect malware symptoms on customers' computers through PC Health Check in order to get them to pay for Office Depot's repair and technical services. In order to settle these claims, Office Depot agreed to pay $25 million and Support.com agreed to pay $10 million that will be refunded to consumers.
