Warner Brothers Settles Claims that It Did Not Disclose Paid Positive Reviews

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Inc. agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that bar it from making misrepresentations and failing to adequately disclose to viewers that reviews of its video games are objective and independent. The FTC alleged that it deceived consumers during a marketing campaign for the video game Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, when it did not adequately disclose that it paid online “influencers,” including the wildly popular “PewDiePie,” thousands of dollars to post positive gameplay videos on YouTube and social media.
